Staff Sergeant
Eric Shaw, age 31, of Exeter, Maine was killed in action on
Sunday, June 27, 2010 in Afghanistan. He was a Soldier in the 101st
Airborne Division of the United States Army stationed at Fort Campbell,
Kentucky. Shaw was raised in Exeter, Maine. He graduated from Dexter Regional High School in 1999 and was a 2003 graduate of the University of Southern Maine in Gorham where he earned a bachelor's degree in history and education. His hobbies were wrestling and history. While in college he was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. One of his long-time ambitions was to become a history teacher. He joined the U.S. Army in the fall of 2004. Eric was a member of the 327th Infantry, First Brigade Combat Team, of the 101st Airborne Division. He was on his third overseas combat tour. having served in Iraq twice. His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Combat Infantry Badge, Overseas Service Ribbon, Expert Infantry Badge, and Air Assault Badge. In addition, he was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and NATO Medal posthumously. He leaves behind a wife and three children - ages five, two and one month.. |
